About the piece
The Serenade ('Ständchen') comes from Schwanengesang, the collection of songs Franz Schubert wrote in 1828, the final year of his life, to a text by Ludwig Rellstab. A lover's nocturnal appeal, its long-breathed melody and murmuring accompaniment have made it a favourite for solo guitar transcription.
