About the piece
Known as the "Air on the G String," this is the Air from Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068, made famous by August Wilhelmj's nineteenth-century arrangement that placed the melody on the violin's lowest string. Its long, arching melodic line unfolds over a steady walking bass in serene, sustained repose.
