John Dowland

A galliard by John Dowland (1563–1626), the preeminent English lutenist of the Elizabethan age, named in tribute to Queen Elizabeth I. The galliard is a lively courtly dance in triple meter, and this piece pairs its characteristic leaping rhythm with Dowland's refined melodic writing, here in a version for solo guitar.
